The family pantheon of the family of Fernando Buesa, murdered by ETA on February 22, 2000 along with his bodyguard Jorge Diez, located in the Santa Isabel de Vitoria cemetery, has been attacked with paint, after the sabotage perpetrated this Thursday against the monolith built in memory of both in the capital of Alava. This new attack occurs hours after unknown individuals also sprayed black spray paint on the plaque of the monolith on which the names of Buesa and Diez and the date of their murder, which occurred with the explosion of a car bomb, are read.
The deputy mayor of Vitoria, Beatriz Artolazabal (PNV), has expressed on social networks her “most absolute condemnation and solidarity” with the relatives of the socialist leader who was a victim of terrorism. < And it’s not a coincidence. This is not the way to coexistence,” he said.
This Thursday’s attack also provoked the condemnation of numerous political leaders, such as the mayor of Vitoria, Maider Etxeberria; the deputy general of Alava, Ramiro Gonzalez; the Government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso; the general secretary of the PSE-EE, Eneko Andueza; Beatriz herself and the PP spokesperson in the council, Ainhoa Domaica.
Three years ago, on July 9, 2020, they also sabotaged the tombstone of the socialist leader murdered by ETA, when they sprayed it with red paint. The tombstone, in addition to the name of the former vice president and socialist spokesperson in the Basque Parliament, includes the phrase: < “He defended the freedom of all with words.”
The Fernando Buesa Foundation announced after 3:00 p.m. this Friday that the family pantheon was clean again. In a tweet they also thanked all the expressions of affection, support and closeness that the family of the murdered politician has received in the last two days “from all institutions and hundreds of citizens.”
