The government’s top priority project, the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Rail Line, is expected to start running in September.

Mofizur Mofizur said that the test run between Chattogram, Bangladesh and Cox’s Bazar will not be delayed despite damage.
However, the flood damages will be a “good lesson” for future authorities who work on similar projects.
In the last week, flash floods and record downpours have caused Chattogram’s Satkania, Chandanaish and Lohagara Upazilas to be submerged. Waters have damaged the rail track at Temuhuni, Satkania.

Mofizur said that the contractor will be repairing the damaged line. He said adverse weather was not uncommon. He said that these incidents occurred not just on the Cox’s Bazar railway line but in Chattogram as well as Dhaka and Sylhet.
Our feasibility study determined that the height of the rail is 20 feet because the rain records for the last 100 years are the highest. The project director said.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Water Development Board claim that such rains have never occurred in the past 100 years.
He believes that the flooding caused by heavy rains is an important lesson. We should not only prepare for the rail line that is currently in place, but for future ones as well.
There are railway tracks up until Chattogram’s Dohazari. However, a single-line dual gauge track of 101 kilometres is currently being constructed from Dohazari via Ramu to Cox’s Bazar. The rail connection between Cox’s Bazar, and the rest the country will be improved.
Bangladesh Railway will test-run the new line in September. The cost is Tk180,34 billion.
Project director stated that 90 km of rail lines from Dohazari up to Cox’s Bazar had been completed. The remaining 12 km will be finished by the deadline.
