UNION (NJ) – Union Police Officers arrested a Newark Man on Wednesday, in connection with a number of armed robberies at gas stations that took place on September 5. Union Police Chief Christopher Donnelly as well as Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel made the announcement.
Joseph Young, 26, was arrested following a joint investigation conducted by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office with the Union Police Department, and New Jersey State Police.
The Union Police Department, along with the New Jersey State Police, received three reports of robberies on the Garden State Parkway that occurred in less than 30 minutes. Multiple suspects in stolen vehicles approached victims and demanded money or other items under threat of violence. Two of the three robberies involved assaulting the victims.
Young’s identity was revealed as the main suspect after a detailed investigation. The arrest came after a pursuit of a vehicle in Newark. Young continues to be held at the Essex County Jail until further Court proceedings.
The prosecutor in the case is Nicole Siano. She has charged him with 4 counts of 1st-degree Robbery; one of 2nd-degree Eluding; 3 counts of 2nd-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.
