The report states that in the past week, a truck was stolen and there were several reports of wage thefts.
The theft of a 2003 Chevy Tahoe was discovered by Jose Torres, an agricultural worker, on September 14.
When we went home, I saw a wallet that had been thrown away. “I thought that they dumped it here, but when I went to look for my truck I could not find it,” Torres said in an interview with Univision 21.
Authorities say that the Hispanic victim was sitting in the Raisin City field in Fresno when he became the victim of an opportunity crime.
Torres wasn’t the only victim, as other farmworkers also had their wages stolen.
Torres, Univision 21, reported that “they stole the checks of a woman and her husband for 600 dollars; they also stole a boy’s wallet.”
According to the authorities, no arrests had been made prior to these robberies.
Fresno County Sherriff Tony Botti stated: “I encourage our immigrant communities to not be discouraged in reporting crimes, as we do not review immigration status. We treat them just like any other victims of crime.”
