The Kenyan Red Cross reported on Monday that at least 15 people had died as a result of floods in Kenya caused by torrential rainfall in East Africa. This rain has cut off many roads and washed away houses, killing livestock.
The Kenyan Red Cross posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Since yesterday (Sunday), 15264 households were affected. There have been reported deaths and injuries of at least 1 067 livestock.”

The local government reported on Saturday that flooding has caused around 20 deaths and 12,000 displacements in the Somali Region of Eastern Ethiopia.

Kenya’s arid northern region has been particularly affected by the rains.
Local media broadcast images of torrents of floodwater sweeping through the villages and forcing local residents to seek higher ground.
A second video shows a helicopter civilian rescuing people from the top of a truck that was caught up in floodwaters around 300 km north of Nairobi.
Kenya’s Meteorological Service warned that heavy rains could be accompanied with gusty winds, which would “uproot trees, tear roofs off and cause structural damages”. The Horn of Africa, one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change and extreme weather, is experiencing an increasing number of events.
