Community members have come together as a group to show their gratitude and support for a real American hero. Freddy Jimenezdejesus is an Albany native, a U.S. Marine Corps vet who has proudly defended the country. He faced financial problems that appeared insurmountable when COVID-19 was spreading.
The Capital Region Community, under the leadership of Pinnacle Roofing and in collaboration with Owens Corning Capital District and Habitat for Humanity Capital District began a journey to give Jimenezdejesus a brand new roof. This became a symbol for hope, unity and unwavering assistance.
Jimenezdejesus joined the Marine Corps after completing high school. Jimenezdejesus says that his motive was simple: to defend the Constitution and service the country which had provided so much for him and his entire family. He dedicated himself for four years and was a living example of the Marines spirit. After his military career ended, an entirely new chapter awaited him.
Freddy, his girlfriend, and others faced economic insecurity as the COVID-19 epidemic swept across the country. They both faced job losses, but unemployment was only a temporary solution. The unemployment benefits were dwindling and the job prospects continued to be scarce. This left them in a difficult financial situation. The time was uncertain, and they had to deplete their savings in order to survive.
Freddy stated, “You don’t think we were really short of funds, because it wasn’t like that for us.” “We are really short. It’s $15,000. Now, you know that we are in a period of recession. “A lot of people are unable to come up with such a large sum of money.”
Pinnacle Roofing – a Albany roofing company – joined forces with Owens Corning and Habitat for Humanity Capital District, and made a significant difference to Freddy. It was more than just repairing the roof. This was about changing lives and restoring a sense of hope.
Gregory Musk, Pinnacle Roofing Inc.’s site supervisor, said that there are a number of groups that give back to those veterans who have spent a considerable amount of time serving and protecting us. “This is us helping out and giving them back with service. This includes a roof replacement, masonry on a fireplace, gutters for example.”
Owens Corning donated roofing materials, and Pinnacle Roofing provided their team. Other local companies also contributed.
Jimenezdejesus added, “An investment like this is sure to save money.” “We do not have to change slate. No need to replace the entire roof. “It’s certainly a major life-changing experience.”
Jimenezdejesus couldn’t but remember his Marine Corps years as he watched the crew working tirelessly.
It’s 100+ degrees outside,” he told me. “I’m sure these guys have been working hard. Marines, you can’t watch. We are right there in the battle. When I saw how hard they worked, I knew I had to get involved.”
The roof project is more than a simple repair. It represents the community’s commitment to veterans and their family members.
