The seafront house that is famous for wedding proposals, but was destroyed in an arsonist attack last year, could be reopened next year.
On June 4, a stolen motorbike was used to set fire to the structure at Gorleston’s promenade, which is known locally as the ‘love’ shelter. The mural was based off the movie ‘Yesterday.’
Great Yarmouth Borough Council issued a press release in which it stated: “Since the June fire that destroyed the Gorleston Promenade shelter, an extensive structural assessment was conducted to determine the damage.
The next step, as it doesn’t require a full rebuild, is to start the tendering process. A contractor will be appointed to repair the damages and open the shelter again to the public in the following year.
It was inspired by the 2021 collaboration that saw local artist Justin Peach (AKA Greater Than) paint a mural on the Danny Boyle movie ‘Yesterday,’ while members of the public covered the walls in the word “love”.
This project was designed to showcase local talent following Banksy’s ‘Spraycation’ that summer.
Mr Peach stated: “I would love to see it returned as a shelter for love, but not necessarily with the same artwork. Maybe something more fitting to the locality this time.
The shelter is a nuisance on the UK’s finest beaches.
The Lexmoto white was stolen and then lit on fire inside the shelter the same night.
Norfolk Police spokesperson said all avenues of investigation have been exhausted, and that the case is closed.
The spokesperson said, “Ofcourse we will always examine any new information that is provided.”
The shelter has been painted and more people have written their own “love” on its walls. There are also reports that some couples got engaged in the shelter.
