Images show damage to the Walsall apartment where a 30-year-old man was discovered dead after a fire.
Around 4am, emergency services were called to Wednesbury road, Walsall.
West Midlands Police launched an investigation into the fire following the discovery of a dead man in his 30s at the site.
The fire started in the morning, but the firefighters, police, and forensics experts were still on site until the late afternoon.
Wednesbury road, which is usually busy, was shut down to traffic on Monday. Hillary Primary School in the area announced on their website that they had been closed because of a police incident.
Jared Colby is a resident and freelance plasterer of the region. He said, “You could feel the smoke as you drove through the neighborhood.” You couldn’t smell the smoke when I began my work early in the morning, but there were emergency vehicles all around.
It’s quite worrying. Someone died in the fire, I’ve heard. It’s quite sad.”
The fire has caused damage to both the back window and the roof.
Councillor Ram. K. Mehmi who represents Pleck ward said he found it sad that a person had died after the fire.
He stated: “I am deeply worried about this issue and feel very upset that someone has lost their life.”
West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the fire started in the apartment’s bedroom and called it “severe”.
Walsall Councillor Mike Bird said, “Any fatality raises concern. The police are actively investigating this case and we know that the fire department has a long history of saving people’s lives.
The fatality is worrying, and we’ll be checking these apartments. We will check to see if there were any fire safety checks in place if they’re privately owned.
