Trains have been cancelled in the east of Norway due to torrential rainfall over the past weekend. The week has begun with red level warnings for several regions because of a higher risk of flooding.
Flytoget (the Airport Express Train) that runs between Oslo Airport Central Station, and the Central Station in Oslo has been delayed. An update will be released on Monday around noon.
Bane NOR, the track operator for Bergensbanen between Geilo & Gol announced in a Sunday evening update that it had closed this route due to a substantial accumulation of water. Rail line reopening is anticipated to be a long process. Next update expected on Monday.
Ostfold has been affected as well, with delayed trains and rescheduled at Hauketo because of reduced track availability. This route’s status will be updated at 12 noon on Monday.
Meteorologists have issued an orange flood warning for certain parts of Drammensvassdraget on Sunday. Warnings are issued for several towns, such as Sondre Land and Gran.
High Water Levels
Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate NVE has warned that the level of water in Tyrifjorden is likely to soon reach levels experienced during Storm Hans.
Orange-level alerts have been issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Innlandet & Viken, Mjosa & Vorma as well the lower Drammenselva River. The Norwegian news agency NTB reports that all of these alerts remain in effect until as early as Tuesday morning.
The flooding has caused several roads to be closed, such as the E134 area between Steinbergveien Bridge and Loe Bridge, the county road 2808 Mjondalen heading towards Mjondalen and the national route 7 between Bromma & Gol.
