Juan Pablo II suffers from repeated water cuts, broken pipes and incidents of security. San Pedro: Water outages in San Pedro are concerning during the summer heat.
In the Juan Pablo II area, there are multiple instances of security incidents and burst water pipes. Residents of the Juan Pablo II San Pedro neighborhood suffer from multiple interruptions in the drinking water supply during the day, and particularly on hot days.
Cristina Yarull, the neighborhood commission and El Tribuno de Jujuy reported that “multiple water cut-offs occur during the day or night due to low pressure in the water flow”.
They also stated that the blocks 6, 7, and 8 have no drinking water for the entire day due to this low water pressure. They must ask for water tanks to bring to them on days they have no service. However, the amount they can carry isn’t enough, as they only permit them to transport a limited amount.
El Tribuno de Jujuy toured the area and found several water leaks. They say that these leaks and breaks are due to “very fragile” aqueducts that they have installed, as well as the water pressure being low. Yarull stated that “they come to repair the pipes, but they last only one or two month and they then break again because of their fragility.”
A neighbor who is on the commission said that Agua potable had left two wells exposed. These would have been constructed many years ago for water connections in the area.
In one of the wells, there are a number of leaks. These wells are very deep and there are children playing near them. We are worried that they may fall at any time.
“That well is breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Now that the heat has arrived, and there is stagnant water, we are at risk of dengue,” said he. Users also mentioned the lack of weeding and lighting, as thieves in this area hide among the weeds in order to steal from people.
The neighbor, who requested anonymity, said: “We’ve been without electricity for over two months. There are many assaults against both the young and elderly. We have very little.” They made complaints and asked for weed cutting, but they did not receive a reply.
The neighborhood commission also stated that it is open to dialogues with other authorities in order to come up with solutions.
